Ya, That's Right...I'm American.

So earlier this week Sebas and I were walking around Sol when we stopped to have a look at what seemed to be a protest. After a couple minutes of utter confusion (the group of protestors communicated solely through whistles, jumping, and pieces of paper with barely-legible Sharpie writing on them,) we realized that it was, in fact, a protest again the United States. In general.

"People are dying"
- It's your fault.
"People are starving"
- It's your fault.
"People are poor"
- It's your fault.
etc.
etc.
etc.

Now, I won't go into detail (but I will if ever prompted to), but if there's one thing I'm sick and tired of, it's Europeans giving me shit about my own country. If anyone is going to talk shit about my country, it'll be me. Thank you.

Don't get me wrong. I love Europe. I love the people. Sometimes. (I'll admit I use the word "sometimes" very loosely.) But I have had my fair share of instances where I've blatantly criticized about my country's habits, culture, leaders, government, dress, etc. by people who have never even lived there. Why does it seem as though Europeans (and many countries, in general) seem to think they know more about America than someone who has lived there her whole life? Just because they've seen our movies, see our leaders on TV, and listen to our music does NOT mean that they have any clue as to what life is really like. I have lost count of how many times I've heard these all-knowing and "cultured" people mumble "Ugh...stupid Americans." Because you know, all of us Americans are the same, right?

You know what...
You watch our movies. Shut up.
You listen to our music. Shut up.
Our tourism keeps your economy alive. So shut up.

I'm happy to say that I grew up in arguably the most cultured city in the entire world, and I plan on moving back there very soon. I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm proud to be an American, thankyouverymuch.

So, in short, I say to all:

COME TO AMERICA!
LAND OF THE FREE!
A PLACE WHERE STORES ARE OPEN 24/7, 365 DAYS A YEAR!
A PLACE WHERE CUSTOMER SERVICE EXISTS AND IS VALUED!
A PLACE WHERE HARD WORK IS APPRECIATED AND REWARDED!
A PLACE WHERE TECHNO MUSIC IS NOT PLAYED IN EVERY SINGLE CLUB!
A PLACE WHERE MULLETS ARE NOT CONSIDERED FASHIONABLE!
A PLACE WHERE DREAMS CAN COME TRUE!
BEAUTIFUL BEACHES!
BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!
DISNEYLAND!
HAMBURGERS!
HOTDOGS!
BBQ!
BASEBALL!
APPLE PIE!
MEXICANS!
YAY!

Hi Tiff,
You don't know me but I follow your blog. I especially like this entry...I am not American, but I think sometimes people criticize because it is a pleasure for them. Anyway, keep going girl!
